Automate and streamline business processes are the values provided by Information Systems (ISs). This group project is to research suitable MIS system based on the following scenario:
T.T. Enterprise runs a chain of 50 grocery stores in Jiangsu province and headquarters in Suzhou. The grocery store is still practicing the traditional method of consolidating its daily sales and stock levels from all branch offices. The operation starts at 11 pm every night. At first, telephone was the primary reporting tools for branch managers to communicate with the headquarters. After few errors from the phone communication, the organization decided to convert the verbal process to a new communication tool – fax.
However, the headquarter accountant may sometimes experience difficulties reading faxes from branch offices; in this case, branch managers will send the fax again. Once the headquarter accountant has received and verified all reports, the next activity is to record the data using MS Excel which will generate consolidated report with daily sales and stock levels. Based on the consolidated report, headquarter will request its suppliers to replenish the low stock items.
Deliverables: -
Based on old system
1. System flow chart.
2. Identify the potential errors and inefficiency.
Based on new IS
1. Research and propose an information system that can improve the current practice.
2. Write report to describe the new information system, include its advantages, special features and company background.
3. System flow chart of the new system.
