“皮薄”代表美国文化中人际关系很容易切入和建立,就像撕掉一层薄薄的桃皮.
“汁儿多”形容美国文化的独特性和丰富性,每个人都可以表现自己独特的一面,没有人会因你的独特性而觉得奇怪.
“核硬”则象征美国文化中强调独立、平等、隐私、坦率等核心价值观.
独立,是美利坚民族的特殊性格,他们对自己深信不疑,对自己的命运深信不疑,把依靠自己作为哲学信条.
美国的孩子从小就独自睡在一个房间里,在成长过程中,家长更是强调培养孩子独立生存的能力.美国老年人不和儿女住在一起,儿女们定期来看望他们,但是绝对不会像中国人三代同堂.因此,绝大多数中国人会觉得这是不孝顺,但其实并非如此,美国人有自己独立的生活空间,不愿意让别人扰乱自己的生活,所以千万不要告诉美国人不与老人同住是不孝顺的,不然他会觉得你很荒谬.
平等,是美国社会比较突出的特点.工作没有高低贵贱之分,饭店里的服务员和大学课堂上的教师是平等的,他们都是拿钱为别人服务的.
面对从事服务性工作的人,如服务员等,不要表现出鄙夷的言论和行为,因为你们处于平等的地位.但是在中国,家长的地位在孩子之上,孩子对家长向来是言听计从,俗话说“棍棒下出孝子”,在中国,打骂和体罚也是教育孩子的方法.然而,美国家长和孩子的地位是平等的,家长在进入孩子房间前要敲门,教育孩子时只能是劝说,打孩子是违法的,是要遭到虐待儿童罪被起诉的.因此新移民在美国千万不能采取打骂的方式来教育孩子,小心付上法律的代价.
坦率,是美国人性格的又一特点.美国人说话直来直去,不喜欢拐弯抹角,回答一般很明确直接.
例如,我们中国人说话委婉而间接,给出的回答经常模棱两可,大部分信息都是由环境语言、身体语言、表情语言、或其他非言语信号方式传递,较少用直接而明确的语言来表达.这样一来,在与美国人的交往中容易造成困难或误解,因此 和美国人交往时尽量要避免费解、模棱两可和啰嗦的说法.
隐私,在美国人的生活中非常重要,有时在中国人看来甚至有些极端.
中国人见面时询问对方要去哪儿是很正常的事情,但是在美国这已经侵犯到了别人的隐私.去美国人家里拜访必须先打电话预约,如果贸然前往也会侵犯到别人的隐私.此外,收入、体重、年龄、健康状况、成绩、 婚姻、爱情、政治观点等等这些都是美国人的隐私.
所以,我认为隐私早已经是美国的一种文化.

To an American family visit must call first appointment, if rushed to also can invading into other people's privacy. In addition, income, weight and age, health, results, marriage, love, political views and so on these are American's privacy.
So, I think the privacy already are a kind of American culture.
