The South Korean Sewol ferry,a passenger ferry,sank off the coast of Jindo Island on April 16,2014 at 8:58 a.m.in Jindo-gun,South Korea.There were 476 passengers onboard when the ship set sail from the port city of Incheon,including mostly high school students on a school trip,and a few other passengers.Sewol's capital and crew fled the sinking ship early on rather than helping passengers.Officials said there were only 179 survivors rescued before the ferry capsized and sank.
