按照语法来讲，fish 的复数是 fishes，但是把它放在这句里复数可以说 There are many fishes in the river. 或者 There are lot of fish in the river. (这个没有规则，没有规律，没有人会说fishes不对，但这就是语言，没有规律可寻，英文就要这样说)。但是如果一句句子强调鱼的种类，就像楼上的朋友说的，要用复数，例如，There are over 25000 fishes in the world.(全世界有超过25000种不同种类的鱼)
I am American.有两个名词，这样的句子变复数两个名词都要变化，否则语法上怎么都说不过去。把 I 变成复数是we，但你不能按照中文的逻辑说we are American，因为中文没有任何复数形式，而英文不同，所以要说We are Americans。

要把主语换为“第三人称单数”的他，故应把like该为likes
（此处like是动词喜欢，一般换人称是改变动词）
例如：I like flowers.(我喜欢花）

There is a desk in the room .本意为：在房间里有一个桌子。
这句是"There be"句型（be即为am,is,are中任意一个因时态而定）
故应把is改为are。
又因为a desk（一个桌子）为单数，要把其改为复数去a加s：desks
改句：There are desks in the room.（或There are some desks in the room.）{这有一些桌子在房间里}
