2.2.Structure
Bridges employed in this paper are rectangular concrete slabs.Only decks are modelled so abutments and piers are considered by setting the appropriate support conditions in the slab models.Rigid supports along the whole bridge width are considered at their two ends.For multi-span continuous bridges intermediate supports orthogonal to the free edges are added.As vertical bridge dynamic behaviour is being studied,only the flexibility of supports in this direction is significant.Vertical displacements at abutments and piers have a very small influence so they are considered negligible as in similar works [1,7].These structures are modelled by means of the Finite Element Method.Four-node shell elements
with reduced integration and six degrees of freedom per node are used to represent these slabs.Concrete is assumed to have a linear elastic behaviour and Rayleigh damping is employed for all
bridges in this study.Further information regarding both bridges is given below.
